ROUTES

Three course lengths are available – a 200K loop, a 100K loop and a 50K out and back. The 200K loop is a full day’s ride which will take you along the length of the Keweenaw Peninsula, from Houghton to Copper Harbor. The course includes scenes such as Fort Wilkins, Brockway Mountain, mining ghost towns, and McLain State Park. Five rest stops will be offered and pasties will be offered in Copper Harbor.

The 100K course cuts through the center of the Keweenaw. It’s a great intermediate ride for those not quite ready for the 200K, but need something longer than the 50K. Three rest stops line this course.

The 50K course is a quick out-and-back. It follows the same course as the 200K & 100k, except it turns back at Lake Linden. It’s a great ride for the beginner or someone who wants to ride, but does not have an entire day. There is one rest stop.

SUPPORT

The Tour is supported along the various routes by six rest stops and a sag wagon. The stops will have sandwiches, bananas, and water, while the Copper Harbor stop for the 200k riders will additionally have pasties, coffee, and cider. The sag wagon will carry spare tubes and tools, and will also transport bonked cyclists if need-be. At the end of the day, the sag will make one final pass over the route to pick up any stragglers.

T-SHIRTS

All riders participating in the tour receive a t-shirt with their registration. However, only cyclists registered prior to FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 will receive their shirt at the ride. All other participants will be mailed their shirt about two weeks after the event.

DEPARTURE/ARRIVAL

All three tours will begin at 8:00 AM (E.S.T.) from the front of the MTU Memorial Union Building. In past years, we have been able to have a police escorted mass start through town and plan to again this year. At 7:00 PM, the sag wagon will clear the course. All riders not returning to Houghton by that time will be picked up from the course. Parking for the day is available in front of and along side of the Memorial Union Building.

WEATHER

Fall temperatures in the area are usually cool; mornings are often around 40F, climbing to 60F+ by mid-afternoon. Be sure to plan accordingly as rain and cold temperatures are a possibility. The tour will proceed as scheduled regardless of weather conditions.

HELMETS

Due to possible hazards and risks involved in bicycling, CPSC certified helmets are required at all times while riding. Duh.
